Hi, I am Katalin Simon
Data Specialist & Developer, based in Sweden
My relationship with food started at nine years old — planning weekly shopping on a tight budget, keeping a recipe journal, and absorbing everything I could about ingredients, techniques and flavour. That curiosity has never left me, and it eventually shaped my entire career path.
After studies in nutritional science at Uppsala University and sociology and anthropology at the University of Haifa, I found my way into food operations — first as a chef and dairy technician, then as a project manager leading a food waste reduction initiative that achieved a 14% reduction across school kitchens in Falu Municipality. Food waste, I believe, reflects the health of a whole kitchen system.
The turning point came at Martin & Servera, where I spent 2.5 years as a Master Data Coordinator managing thousands of product lines — nutritional declarations, allergens, price lists and private label content. I was selected to participate in the company's migration from legacy systems to SAP S/4HANA Fiori, working directly with the IT team and growing in responsibility throughout the project. That experience made it clear: the place where food, data and systems meet is exactly where I want to be.
I'm currently completing an IT support programme covering databases, PowerShell, Microsoft 365 administration and AI certification — building the technical foundation to eventually develop my own recipe and ingredient management application. The goal is a tool that connects food research, ingredient sourcing and recipe development in one place.
Outside of work and study, I'm a keen kitchen gardener with a passion for growing my own produce. I've kept chickens and ducks, tended an allotment, and once ran a structured seed-testing project trialling hundreds of varieties — documented, of course.
